Any printer should give you ideally 45-100 pages and the variation in between these numbers depends on the brand of printer that you have. For example a Lexmark printer could give you up to 100 pages with a  normal font and space and size 12
It also depends on the size of your page, space, and font and usage frequency.
A more expensive and higher quality printer will get you to use lesser ink in the ink cartridge and also can churn out more pages. So, be very sure about the quality from the off set and do not settle for anything substandard.
One must also try to use the print capacity judiciously and not waste too many papers unnecessarily as refilling of ink is indeed not a penniless affair. Also, try to dig the dirt about each and every ink cartridge before you settle down for one and know individual capacity.
